Tamal- Concept Art
Tamal is a character I created for my wood carving, and has become very prevalent in my work lately. This sketch was initially part of my orthographic concept drawing I created for my wood carving. But I think I fell in love with him too much to keep him in just one project.
However, I decided to use this sketch as a base for a printmaking project. This project required different variants of my original sketch. So I began to play around and started creating as many variations as I could. Whether it was changing the shadow color, the base color, or even the eye color.
At first I stuck with variations of the traditional coloring of a tiger, but then I started to have fun with it and get into color variations that became less realistic. Eventually I began combining and inverting different layers to see just how many combinations I could create. The results of which you can find below.
